PhD student, Julie Williams has a chapter in a book coming out this month, The Silence of Fallout: Nuclear Criticism in a Post-Cold War World. Her chapter is titled "Depictions of Destruction: Post-Cold War Literary Representations of Storytelling and Survival in the Nuclear Era."

Greg Martin's Stories for Boys was chosen for SEATTLE READS

Greg Martin's latest book, Stories for Boys (Hawthorne Books, 2012) was chosen for SEATTLE READS and he's going to be busy in Seattle that whole time, May 1-5.  http://www.spl.org/audiences/adults/seattle-reads. Stories for Boys is The Seattle Public Library's Washington Center for the Book's 2013 featured work.

Stories for Boys was named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. Greg Martin's first book Mountain City won the 2001 Washington State Book Award. He lived in Seattle and taught at Seattle University and North Seattle Community College. He currently teaches creative writing at UNM.

Kathleen Washburn will be at the Newberry Library as the 2013 NCAIS Long-Term Faculty Fellow

Kathleen Washburn will be in residence at the Newberry Library in Chicago from July - January as the 2013 Newberry Consortium on American Indian Studies (NCAIS) Long-Term Faculty Fellow for her project “We Moderns: Native Literary Crossings, 1890-1935.”

The Newberry Consortium on American Indian Studies, founded in 2008, offers an annual workshop, summer institute, and conference as well as research fellowships for graduate students and faculty at member institutions.

Nicolas Hundley's book, The Revolver in the Hive, has been published by Fordham University Press, and won the “editor’s prize”

Nicolas Hundley, a UNM English alumnus (B.A.,’01), studied literature and creative writing here. He is now Director of Communications at the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.

Monica Kowal defends her dissertation at NMSU this last Friday

On Friday, Monica Kowal, PhD, successfully defended her dissertation at New Mexico State University. It's in Curriculum & Instruction, and the title of the dissertation is "A Heuristic Phenomenology on the Experience of Building a High School Service-Learning Program."
